Barcelona, The Horta Gardens

Laberint d'Horta
The Horta Gardens and Maze
Barcelona's 'secret' garden
A historic garden-museum located in the city's Green Zone; a quiet neighborhood far removed from the Barri Gotic and La Rambla. The 18th century Horta gardens are perhaps most often associated with the highly photogenic, living architecture of the gardens' centerpiece - an elaborate cypress maze.
Yet, many more pleasurable scenes, from intimate to monumental, await visitors to this beautifully preserved neoclassical landscape.

  1. I am reading Lemony Snicket's "The Reptile Room" with my daughter and it features topiary snake-shaped hedges - those in your photo totally make me think of that! Or Nessie. I have been to Barcelona but never to this garden. I'd love to walk the "laberint" someday!

  5. Karen, there is a certainly a lively, anthropomorphic character to these shapes. btw, a school group of children arrived when I was leaving, and I'm sure they were thrilled to explore the labyrinth.
Anna, yes, these are my photos. I planned the trip to Barcelona in large part to see the Horta. In this great city bursting with tourists, there were only a few other people strolling in this expansive landscape. And I discovered romantic woodland paths and garden rooms that I didn't even know existed until I visited.
Hermes and Aerie-el, glad you could visit with me.
