A Sustainable Landscape and Green Roof Garden

Like her design firm’s name, Wonderland Garden and Landscape, Lauren Schneider conjured a magical rooftop plantscape in the sky.

An Evening at the Margarido House, Oakland, California

Benefit for

The Garden Conservancy
Thursday, October 1 - 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Join the designers and creators for a private tour of a LEED-H Platinum Rated home, landscape and rooftop garden, designed and built by MCD/McDonald Construction & Development; landscape design by Lauren Schneider, Wonderland Garden and Landscape.

in Northern California.

  1. Great ideas and very important for our futures I feel... We had some lectures recently at my University, unfortunately I couldn't make them but I really do wish I'd gone now...

  2. Hi Liz, A much needed shift is in the air, from the construction of houses to our cars, design decisions will be taking issues of sustainability and climate change into account more and more. It's a timely event!

  3. This is beautiful. The green roofs I've seen before have tended to greener in color-- I love the muted colors here. It looks just right for California.

  4. This has to be one of the most unique designs I have seen in the 'live' roof classification. We have a few near us (Michigan) but they are business locations. I really want to add one to my cabin in our entry driveway. Maybe once I get the raised beds done around the greenhouse I will draw something up!

Thanks for sharing your garden knowledge. I enjoy following you on Blogger and now on Facebook.

    Happy Gardening!

  5. That is so impressive! I'm still dreaming of that green roof at the Academy of Sciences... (wait for my post about visiting Rana Creek Nursery, the people that supplied the plants for that green roof and others, coming soon)

  7. I saw this house on a Planet Green show called Renovation Nation. It is amazing. Not only does it have the green roof, there are many other sustainable features including a water reservoir under the driveway. I'd love to see it in person!

  8. Fantastic! We have a huge conference center where I live whose whole roof top is landscaped and planted. It's really beautiful. That home is out of this world...I feel like I'm looking at a star's home in Hollywood :)

  9. Hello all,
Glad you enjoyed the post... Personally, I can't get my fill these days when it comes to green design, from roofs to walls to interiors and construction methods! I'll be looking to your blogs to keep up with what's going on in other regions. Cheers!! Alice

  12. I love this idea! Wish I could start over and do it RIGHT at our home.
You visited my blog awhile ago and asked where I got a photo, the one with the person riding the bike and the hay? Go to Failblog, it's got some pretty crazy stuff. I never fail to bust a gut.
