Spring Fling! ... Filoli

In the knot garden, Celtic patterns are woven with emerald germander, violet-hued Japanese barberry, soft lavender, and silvery santolina with its perky yellow flowers.

Filoli ... glorious in Spring!

Spring Fling takes place on Saturday, March 20, 2010, an event especially for families!

You'll have a rare chance to see historic greenhouses sheltering plants that have been in Filoli’s collection from 1920 to the present: Carnivorous species, unusual bromeliads, orchids, and edible tropical plants, among them.

There'll be activities for children, garden docents on-hand to answer questions, music, puppet shows and more!

  1. Oh dear...I think I just drooled on my keyboard! My garden looks like such a shambles in comparison. It's definitely time to revisit Filoli again. Thanks for posting the dates of the Spring Fling, I would have completely forgotten about it!

  2. oohhhh (said in pain) I want to go! I feel rather grumpy now - such gorgeousness but yet so far away. You MUST go and take at least 20 photos to put up, I love tulips.

  3. Lovely place I just saw it on Charlotte's blog the Galloping Gardener I hope you two got together or perhaps you weren't there at the same time.

  4. Hi CVF,
I've just brought a bouquet in from the garden... an early blooming Kerria, one - only 1 - calla bloom near ready to open, and viburnum branches.
This is why I moved West -- Spring in February! In Chicago I would become so depressed as the weeks went by into March and April and it was still winter.
I'm due for a visit to Filoli, myself. Happy Springtime to you and your farm-mates ((despite the storm that will roll in tomorrow:-)

Carrie my luv, wish we could sit together, sipping a cuppa, and talk gardens!

Joanne, Charlotte and I missed each other on this trip, but I have a feeling we will connect next time she is in California. Cheers!

  5. Ah, these photos are dripping in spring time goodness - can't wait to see more!

  6. What a lovely garden. You and Charlotte have great taste in sharing gardens with those of us still sitting in winter!

  7. I saw both yours and Charlotte's posts on a sidebar widget, and had to visit both! How wonderful to be able to visit this wonderful place. One of these days....

  8. This is gorgeous! I love the knot garden and the spring garden with tulips. Looks beautiful.

Spring is divine at Filoli... but I love to visit in Summer and Fall, when there are gorgeous seasonal displays to take in, as well.
