  1. What a great idea! Interesting that you picked metal-themed colors for the photo in Valencia. I was thinking cashmere!

  2. Christine,
Exactly the sort of comment I hoped for, as I'm fascinated by the sounds and connotations of words, especially related to aspects of design, like color!

BTW, that's not to say I won't enjoy any and all comments!!

  3. Fascinating that we often have to use terms such as honey and avocado to describe a colour. I suppose we are trying for a common point of reference. I also find it interesting that many of us see colours differently - like the disputes over "is it blue or green" for example.

  4. You ought to name colors at the paint store! Love the various words for a specific place on the color palette.

  5. Imbued with hue -- lovely lingo, Alice. Makes me think of Donovan's "Wear Your Love Like Heaven": alizarin crimson.

  6. Alice, when I studied fashion design we had a course on naming colours. It is interesting how hard it is to come up with a name for a colour, that is not common, but still reflects the colour and gives people an idea of what that colour could be.

  7. I used to squeeze out a little bit of oil paint on my palette, then flatten it with my finger to look at the color that spread out from the rigid dab of color from the tube. It looked altogether different flattened and spread than it did as it emerged from the tube. That is exactly what your post reminded me of.

That sounds silly, but that was the thought that popped into my head. Your post wowed me. Now, I need to run over and pick this one...

  8. That scarcrow manlike image reminds me of the Lord of the Ring - TreeHerders and also like your apple green picture - so serene and calm to the soul.

  9. All the colors reminds me of that song from 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Coat.' I had it memorized when I was younger . . . red and yellow and green and brown, scarlet and blue and I'd better stop here :-)

  11. There's a poem in there Alice, in fact it is a poem-lovely! I tried to find in your words some common thread-I think the success of these words is that often they involve another sense than the eye-so as you see chartreuse-you mentally taste, or you feel mahogany etc etc??? There must be a book on the Language of colour somewhere. Robert
